The Morning After the First Monday in May

The morning after the first Monday in May.

The Met Gala is fashion’s largest PR platform, according to Roxo Agency. Ever since Anna Wintour took over the Gala, she had made it the biggest event of the year with the most exclusive guest list.

The invitees dawn extravagant outfits with deep meaning, some to shine light on a topic or the Gala theme. This year’s exhibition was spread out over two nights, one in September and one last night - the traditional day. Both nights had outfits that screamed PR.

According to Business of Fashion, the Met Gala has become the best place for fashion businesses to “promote their own products and agendas.” With over 15 million viewers in September, the world’s eyes are on this red carpet.

With Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress - which was sold at an auction for $4.6 million. And Hilary CLinton wearing a bordeaux, Altuzarra gown to honor home sewers, quilters and embroiderers as well as American women who made history like Harriet Tubman and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, according to Business of Fashion.

Last September, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a statement with a white gown by Aurora James with red letters painted on it creating the statement “tax the rich.” According to Prowl PR, AOC was just one of the many celebrity guests who dressed to make a statement, with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Cara Delevingne, and Daniel Levy all wearing outfits that supports LGBTQ+ rights.

All in all the Met Gala is the best PR for the city that never sleeps. It is a love letter to New York City. As seen in jaw-dropping outfits like co-chair Blake Lively and Alicia Keys. Lively wore a Versace gown that was created to look like copper and later patina into a turquoise, just like the Statue of Liberty, with a train that mirrored the constellations shown in Grand Central Station and the boddes rendered the architectural design of the Empire State Building. Keys also supporting the concrete jungle with her Ralph Lauren look that simmered and had a cape with the stunning skyline.
