Fashion in Reboots

Fashion plays a role in all TV shows, but none quite like Sex and the City. The Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning costume designer, Patricia Field, set so many of the trends we know and love. With the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, announcing a second season, the current costume designers Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago have big shoes to fill. Rogers worked and learned from Fields from 1998 to 2004 on the set of the original SATC. The first season of And Just Like That kept the wild fashion alive; Rogers tells Business of Fashion

, the 1997 Jean Paul Gaultier jumpsuit that Carrie sports in the reboot is "never going to be [anywhere else] on TV… No one would be brave enough to trot around in it."

The vintage style is making appearances on new TV shows across HBO Max, including Euphoria and the reboot of Gossip Girl. Both shows mix contemporary pieces with vintage staples.

The reboot's costume designers for Gossip Girl also had big shoes to fill. The fashion for reboots of beloved shows had to reach that of the original while also appealing to the new, younger audience.

No one can say why Gen Z is taking to thrift stores now more than ever before, whether for the cost, the one-of-a-kind aspect or the environmental impact. This demand has opened doors for new online vintage shopping from eBay and Etsy to Poshmark and Thredup.
